Bardello on Facebok

The very first thing to do was to keep all of our customers informed of exactly what was going on. We made the decision to stop all ZUMBA sessions and the other dance classes that we ran in the third week in May 2011 with the last ZUMBA fitness session being at 09:30 on Saturday 21 May telling everyone that it was our aim to be open mid-June 2011. This gave us just over one week to decommission the Damson Lane site and move everything to Monkspath before Cala Homes took possession of the site on 1 June 2011.

The new Bardello Venue

On the last day of operation, 21 May 2011, looking from reception to the stage and DJ unit.

I think at times like this, you have to look forward to, hopefully, the better things to come as it was heart-wrenching to see the place that we had taken nearly three months to put back together after the flood, torn down. But then, the building had caused us so much trouble and it was going to continue to do so had we stayed that it was the right thing to do.

The new Bardello Venue

On the last day of operation, 21 May 2011, The stage and DJ unit with my congas. I am reliably informed that I have the biggest pair of congas in Solihull - unless you know different!

We tried to salvage the floor, but after attempting a few sq ft, the time it would have taken and the associated cost would not have been commercially justified as we were not going to use it in the new venue and would have been sold for scrap or on the second hand market.

The new Bardello Venue

On the last day of operation, 21 May 2011, The very last photo, ever, of the stage etc.

I have to say that I was surprised at how quickly the vultures gathered. Every day a steady stream of opportunists would descend upon me enquiring about the future of my furniture, refrigerators, toilets, door knockers and generally all my chattels and worldly goods.

The new Bardello Venue

On the last day of operation, 21 May 2011, The bar, still fully stocked - no one ever drank!

The new Bardello Venue

30 May 2011. All the furniture awaiting removal. As we took tables and chairs etc out of the back rooms, there seemed no end to the numbers. Would 4 removal lorries be enough?

The new Bardello Venue

30 May 2011. DJ unit already removed and taken to Monkspath. The pictures are still up. I grew to dislike them, intensely. I was rather hoping that a wayward screwdriver would make the decision for me as to what to do with them. You won't find them on display at Monkspath!

The new Bardello Venue

30 May 2011. Bar gone. Already taken to Monkspath. I won't miss the antique bulbs that were next to impossible to source, cost a fortune when you could find a supplier and lasted all off... 10 minutes, maybe, before blowing and taking out the entire bar electricity circuit!

The new Bardello Venue

30 May 2011. Reception desk gone. Already taken to Monkspath. We've still not managed to sell the blue ZUMBA top that you can see in the antique-effect mirror - remind me to label it as a sale item.

The new Bardello Venue

30 May 2011. Devastation. Within a week, it will all be demolished. Oh, that reminds me before I go, I must organize to have a mechanical extractor fan put in the disabled toilet - building regs, I believe. Goodbye Damson Lane. We thank you!
